Fall Feast at Double R Ranch

There’s a moment every cook dreams of, standing on the very land where great beef begins. This fall, I was invited to Loomis, Washington, to join the small but mighty Snake River Farms influencer team for their annual “Fall Feast” this time at the Double R Ranch. It wasn’t just a trip, it was an experience that reshaped how I think about food, connection, and the stories behind the ingredients I love to cook with.

The Double R Ranch stretches across some of the most breathtaking country I’ve ever seen. Rolling pasture, towering evergreens, and still mountain lakes that mirror the peaks above. It’s here that Snake River Farms’ legendary American Wagyu is raised with care, and here that I saw, firsthand, the respect they give to the animals, the land, and the people who work it. From the moment we arrived, every detail felt intentional. Every handshake, every hug, every warm welcome a reminder that this is a company built on relationships.

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, you’ve seen pieces of this journey. From my first post about “Where It All Begins,” to a closer look at the stunning land and cattle that make this place special. Finally, the celebration that brought it all together. This post is where it all comes full circle, the land, the herd, the feast, and the friendships forged around the table.

The Land & the Cattle

The first thing that strikes you at the Double R Ranch isn’t just the size of the land. It’s the feeling of balance. Wide pastures roll into pine covered hills. Clear mountain lakes reflect jagged peaks. And quietly, almost peacefully, herds of American Wagyu cattle roam and graze. Some wander along the forest edge; others climb the slopes like they own the mountainside. It’s wild and beautiful, yet deeply cared for.

Walking this land, you understand why Snake River Farms beef tastes the way it does. The animals are raised with intention. Room to roam, clean water, and a diet designed to produce incredible marbling while respecting their natural environment. You can see the results in every healthy coat, every quiet, content herd scattered across the landscape.

For me, it was a powerful reminder that great beef doesn’t start at the butcher counter, it starts here, with stewardship. Every steak we love to grill has a backstory of good land management, patient ranching, and respect for the animals. Snake River Farms doesn’t just talk about quality, they live it on the ranch every single day.

Meeting the People Behind the Beef

As breathtaking as the land is, what truly sets Snake River Farms apart are the people who call the Double R Ranch home. From the moment I stepped onto the property, it was clear this is more than just a workplace, it’s a community.

Everywhere I turned, there was a warm handshake, a heartfelt hug, or even a quick kiss on the cheek. The rancher, his wife, the team members from Snake River Farms, and the chefs and home cooks invited to this gathering. Everyone felt like they belonged. It’s a culture rooted in respect. Respect for the animals, respect for the craft, and respect for each other.

I was struck by how intentional every detail was. The way the team talks about the cattle shows genuine pride and care. Not just in producing American Wagyu beef, but in doing it the right way. You see it in quiet conversations out in the field, in the way they greet each guest like family, and in how seamlessly they bring together people from different corners of the food world.

For someone like me who spends so much time behind a grill creating recipes and celebrating flavor, it was inspiring to meet the people whose work makes those flavors possible. Their passion reminded me why I love sharing great beef with others, because it connects us.

The Fall Feast at Double R Ranch

After a day spent exploring the land and meeting the people who make Snake River Farms what it is, we gathered for the event that brings it all together, the annual Fall Feast.

Set against the sweeping backdrop of mountains and evergreens, three long tables were lined with friends, fellow home cooks, chefs, and the SRF team who had welcomed us like family. Glasses clinked, fires crackled, and the scent of perfectly cooked beef drifted through the cool Washington air.

The food was, simply put, unforgettable. American Wagyu steaks seared and smoked to perfection. Thoughtfully prepared sides that celebrated the season, roasted vegetables, salads, and rich sauces to match the marbling of the beef. Every bite told the story of the land we’d walked and the people we’d met.

And then time seemed to slow down. Minutes turned into hours as we sat, ate, drank, and laughed. Stories were shared, memories were made. It was the kind of meal where teammates become friends and friends become family.

Reflection & Takeaways

As the night wound down and the fires burned low and the Fall Feast came to an end, I couldn’t help but sit back and take it all in. Moments like this don’t come around often. I feel so fortunate, and honestly humbled, to be part of this incredible Snake River Farms family. To walk the land where world class beef begins, to break bread (and steak) with the people who raise it, and to share stories and laughter with some of the most passionate cooks I know. It’s the kind of experience that makes you stop and pinch yourself just to be sure it’s real.

I never want to wake up from this dream, but alas, my grill is calling. And that’s what this trip is really about for me, taking the inspiration from the ranch back home, firing up the coals, and cooking food that honors the care and craft I witnessed in Washington.

Every time I step outside and light the fire, I’ll think of the Double R Ranch. Of the mountains, the cattle, the feast, and the family I’ve found through this journey. And I’ll keep sharing that story, one recipe and one meal at a time.
